Good Afternoon WORA Members,
We are sharing an email issued by the Oro-Medonte Good Neighbours Alliance (OMGNA) advising of their concern of potential grandfathering of more than 500 short term rentals in Oro-Medonte. As you can see from the note below, there will be a deputation by Kim Pressnail at next Wednesday’s O-M Council meeting that will speak to this concern. Also on the agenda will be a presentation by the Tudhope community asking O-M Council for help in putting an end to a disruptive short term rental operating in their community for more than 3 years.
WORA stands with OMGNA on the issue of Short Term Rentals and in requesting O-M Council NOT to grandfather any short term rentals and to NOT exempt any short term rental from complying with existing and enforceable by-laws.
We would ask that you consider attending the Council meeting if you are able to show support for the Tudhope community presentation and to support Kim Pressnail’s deputation (see details of the meeting below).Sincerely,
The WORA Executive

Good afternoon,
There are two items on the Council Agenda for August 14, 2024 related to short-term rentals.
The first item is the presentation of the “Tudhope Petition” by Diana Wells. The residents of the Tudhope community are asking Council to protect their neighbourhood and put an end to a very disruptive rental that has been carrying on illegally for more than 3 years.
The second item is my deputation and it is an explanation as to why Council needs to avoid ‘grandfathering’ 500~ short-term rentals. Otherwise, they will be exempt from restrictions and therefore ungovernable. To avoid this outcome, Council needs to first establish that short-term rentals are not permitted in residential zones, before making any regulatory changes.
The lobbyists for the short-term rental industry have been very active making false and misleading claims and telling people that short-term rentals are not illegal. As I write in my deputation, “they are propagating this misinformation in a concerted attempt to deter the Township from taking enforcement action. They know full well that enforcement of the existing Zoning By-law will put an end to any legal non-conforming use claim. The Township must not be deterred and must persevere.”
Please pass this note along and help all homeowners by letting your members know that they should attend Council meeting if they can. This isn’t just about supporting the Tudhope Community but supporting all neighbourhoods. No one, except the short-term rental operators want to see these use legalized.
Open session begins at 10:30 AM on Wednesday August 14, 2024. The doors will likely open at 10:20. I hope to see you there.
Thank you and thank you for your continued support.
Kim Pressnail
